RESEARCH · FOCUSED STUDIES · DEVELOPING INQUIRY

Focused inquiry into systems, institutions and change.

This section brings together focused studies of questions, systems and developments that benefit from sustained inquiry.

The work may range across economics, finance, institutions, business, technology, governance, history and other fields as new subjects and evidence emerge.

Some studies investigate a single issue. Others form part of a wider programme in which related topics and research areas develop over time through essays, research notes, explainers, case studies, data updates and working papers.

RESEARCH & STUDY PROGRAMMES

Broad programmes. Focused questions.

Research is organised around the subject being examined. A programme may contain several research areas, while an individual area may develop its own topics and subpages as the work grows.

FEATURED RESEARCH PROGRAMME

The Great Global Re-Balancing (TGGR)

The published book established the Adaptive Polycentric Framework (APF). This continuing programme develops that inquiry through focused studies of monetary, financial, institutional, physical, energy, resource and geopolitical change.

DEVELOPING LIBRARY

More areas will follow

Additional programmes and stand-alone studies will be added as questions mature and the evidence supports publication.

FINDING RESEARCH & STUDIES

Three ways to navigate the work.

Each study can be located by its principal subject, its purpose and form, or the actors and places involved.

01 · TOPIC OR AREA

Follow a subject

The principal system, market, institution, industry, technology or theme under inquiry. Larger areas may have their own landing pages and narrower subpages.

02 · RESEARCH / STUDY TYPE

Understand its purpose

The form signals what the work is intended to do—from developing an argument or explaining a mechanism to examining a case or updating evidence.

03 · ENTITY & GEOGRAPHY

Trace actors and places

Countries, regions, institutions, organisations, currencies, commodities and industries connect related work across otherwise different topics.

RESEARCH & STUDY TYPES

Essay

Develops a broader argument or synthesis.

Research Note

Investigates a focused question or piece of evidence.

Explainer

Describes how a system, concept or mechanism works.

Case Study

Examines a specific country, institution, event, project or transaction.

Data Update

Revisits an existing question using newer figures or evidence.

Working Paper

Develops a substantial inquiry whose analysis may continue to evolve.

CONTINUE EXPLORING

Continue the inquiry.
