THE GREAT GLOBAL RE-BALANCING · RESEARCH PROGRAMME

Following a changing global system beyond the headlines.

The Great Global Re-Balancing: Beyond the Dollar System provides the starting map for this continuing research programme.

The central proposition is measured: the dollar system remains the largest pillar of global finance, while countries build additional options across reserves, payments, trade routes, energy, institutions and diplomacy.

This programme follows those changes through focused studies, testing what is operating at meaningful scale, what remains an intention, and how developments in one part of the system affect the others.

THE BOOK

The Great Global Re-Balancing: Beyond the Dollar System

Published in 2026, the book examines how the international order is becoming more adaptive and polycentric. It connects reserve diversification, local-currency settlement, payment technologies, development institutions, trade corridors, energy, strategic resources and middle-power diplomacy through the seven-layer Adaptive Polycentric Framework (APF).

Its argument is not that one system disappears overnight. It is that states are adding options around existing arrangements to improve resilience, preserve access and widen strategic room. The likely result is a more layered order in which established systems remain important while alternative channels grow corridor by corridor.

FROM FRAMEWORK TO FOCUSED STUDY

A cumulative programme of research.

The book established the map. The research programme builds the empirical detail beneath it.

Each area below will have a dedicated landing page that introduces the questions and mechanisms within its scope. As work is published, that page will bring together the relevant essays, research notes, explainers, case studies, data updates and working papers.

Individual studies will remain useful on their own while also contributing to a wider understanding of how the seven APF layers interact. Topics may expand, combine or be revisited as evidence changes and new questions emerge.

RESEARCH AREAS

The programme across the APF system.

Eight principal areas organise the research. Countries and adaptive nodes provide a cross-cutting lens connecting evidence across them.

AREA 01

Monetary & Reserve Systems

Reserve currencies, sovereign debt, exchange-rate regimes, gold and monetary transition.

AREA 02

Banking, Finance & Payments

Global liquidity, banking networks, payment rails, swap lines and alternative settlement.

AREA 03

Institutions & Global Governance

Multilateral institutions, development banks, coalitions, legitimacy and reform.

AREA 04

Trade, Infrastructure & Corridors

Ports, logistics, maritime systems, trade routes and supply-chain resilience.

AREA 05

Energy & Global Capital

Energy pricing, oil and LNG, capital recycling, sovereign wealth and transition finance.

AREA 06

Strategic Resources

Critical minerals, precious metals, uranium, semiconductors and resource security.

AREA 07

Geopolitics & Strategic Autonomy

Sanctions, economic coercion, major-power competition, multi-alignment and fragmentation.

AREA 08

APF & System Integration

Layer interactions, feedback loops, thresholds, shocks, indicators and framework refinement.

CROSS-CUTTING LENS

Countries & Adaptive Nodes

How states and regional hubs connect, navigate and adapt across several systems at once.

HOW THE LIBRARY WILL WORK

From area to question to published study.

01 · AREA LANDING PAGE

Define the field

Introduces the area, its central questions, important mechanisms and the boundaries of the inquiry.

02 · FOCUSED STUDIES

Investigate specific questions

Essays, research notes, explainers, case studies and data updates examine individual claims and developments.

03 · RELATED RESEARCH

Build a cumulative record

Each area page will display its relevant posts and connect later updates with earlier work and other APF layers.
